George Mitchell Nature Preserve Grand Opening The dedication and grand opening of the 1,700 acre George Mitchell Nature Preserve was held on the 33rd anniversary of the opening of The Woodlands, October 19, 2007, along with the dedication of The Woodlands Village of Creekside Park. A half-mile nature trail, one-mile down and back, was opened off of Creekside Forest Drive just west of Gosling Road. A rustic, two-mile hiking trail loop, which is being created off of Flintridge Drive, will open in late February. The George Mitchell Nature Preserve is a joint effort of The Woodlands Development Co., Montgomery County Precinct 3 Commissioner Ed Chance's Office, The Woodlands Association and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Recreational Trails Grant Program.
